Now Sasha is sharing some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/maps\/wheelchair-accessible-places-google-maps\/\">good news<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>People can now turn on an \u201cAccessible Places\u201d feature to have wheelchair accessibility information more prominently displayed in Google Maps. When Accessible Places is switched on, a wheelchair icon will indicate an accessible entrance and you\u2019ll be able to see if a place has accessible seating, restrooms or parking. If it\u2019s confirmed that a place does not have an accessible entrance, we\u2019ll show that information on Maps as well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Introducing Accessible Places on Google Maps\" width=\"604\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-oWsAMwJ-ks?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s cool to see what a community-powered effort this is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Today, Google Maps has wheelchair accessibility information for more than 15 million places around the world. That number has more than doubled since\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/maps\/building-map-everyone\/\">2017<\/a>\u00a0thanks to the dedication of more than 120 million\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/localguides\/howto\" target=\"_blank\">Local Guides\u00a0<\/a>and others who\u2019ve responded to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/maps\/better-world-wheels-google-maps\/\">our call to share accessibility information<\/a>. In total, this community has contributed more than 500 million wheelchair accessibility updates to Google Maps. Store owners have also helped, using Google My Business to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/business\/answer\/7298639?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">add accessibility information<\/a>\u00a0for their business profiles to help users needing stair-free access find them on Google Maps and Search.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last year I mentioned the story of how my colleague Sasha Blair-Goldensohn has used his experience of using a wheelchair to make Maps help make the world easier to navigate.
