{"id":12620,"date":"2008-01-12T16:38:05","date_gmt":"2008-01-12T16:38:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnackdev\/2008\/01\/urban-typography-more.html"},"modified":"2008-01-12T16:38:05","modified_gmt":"2008-01-12T16:38:05","slug":"urban_typography_more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2008\/01\/12\/urban_typography_more\/","title":{"rendered":"Urban typography &#038; more"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Years ago, the design group at AGENCY.COM (of which I was part) was treated to a fun and informative talk from  typographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.typography.com\/about\/biographies.php\">Jonathan Hoefler<\/a>.&#160; He showed &amp; discussed snapshots of type found just in our area around NYU, and in 2000 his partner Tobias Frere-Jones undertook a study of building lettering in New York (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.typography.com\/fonts\/font_history.php?historyItemID=1&amp;productLineID=100008\">samples<\/a>).&#160; Now their company (Hoefler &amp; Frere-Jones) offers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.typography.com\/fonts\/font_overview.php?productLineID=100008\">Gotham<\/a>, a typeface inspired by the city&#8217;s visual vernacular.&#160; The site offers a cool way to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.typography.com\/testDriver\/index.php?productLineID=100008\">test drive typefaces<\/a>, Gotham included.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.posttypography.com\/site\/\">Post Typography<\/a> makes all kinds of visual goodness, typographic &amp; otherwise.&#160; Dig their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.posttypography.com\/site\/index.php?action=portfolio&amp;tid=9&amp;iid=78\">Daydream Nation<\/a> in particular, plus the subtlety of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.posttypography.com\/site\/index.php?action=portfolio&amp;tid=9&amp;iid=501\">Home<\/a>.&#160; And though it&#8217;s not type per se, I like the look on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.posttypography.com\/site\/index.php?action=extra&amp;e=4\">this little dude&#8217;s<\/a> face. <\/li>\n<li><em>OCD yeah you know me<\/em>: Non-profit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadcloth.org\/\">Broadcloth<\/a> fills in letters like there&#8217;s no tomorrow. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.posttypography.com\/site\/index.php?action=portfolio&amp;tid=13&amp;iid=138\">Via<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>Mark Simonson&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ms-studio.com\/FontSales\/mostra.html\">Mostra<\/a> offers Art Deco tastiness. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.daringfireball.net\">Via<\/a>] <\/li>\n<li>Oded Ezer&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.odedezer.com\/typosperma.html\">Typosperma project<\/a>, designed &#8220;to create some sort of new transgenic creatures,&#8221; is&#8230; well, it&#8217;s real different. <\/li>\n<li>The Atlantic features a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/movies\/fonts\/\">video interview<\/a> with Michael Bierut about typography and design. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kottke.org\/remainder\/08\/01\/14779.html\">Via<\/a>] <\/li>\n<li>Want to bump up the grade on your term paper?&#160; Use a serif font like Georgia &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/fadtastic.net\/2006\/03\/12\/the-secret-lives-of-fonts\/\">leave the sans serif strugglaz in the dust<\/a>.&#160; (Hmm&#8211;I wonder how this applies to what people think of the blog.)
