{"id":12877,"date":"2008-09-17T12:56:42","date_gmt":"2008-09-17T12:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnackdev\/2008\/09\/photos-in-motion-dng-sprouts-wheels.html"},"modified":"2008-09-17T12:56:42","modified_gmt":"2008-09-17T12:56:42","slug":"photos_in_motion_dng_sprouts_wheels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/17\/photos_in_motion_dng_sprouts_wheels\/","title":{"rendered":"Photos in motion; DNG sprouts wheels"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul style=\"margin-top: 0;margin-bottom: 0\">\n<li>As you probably don&#8217;t need me to tell you, Canon has just announced the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/news\/0809\/08091705canon_5dmarkII.asp\">5D Mark II<\/a>, complete with the ability to record HD-resolution (1080p) video.&#160; This follows on the heels of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robgalbraith.com\/bins\/multi_page.asp?cid=7-9314-9569\">Nikon&#8217;s D90<\/a>, itself capable of 720p video capture.&#160; My initial thought was that DSLRs capturing video is kind of like dogs walking on their hind legs&#8211;not done well (e.g. no autofocus), though interesting to see done at all.&#160; Nikon&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/chsvimg.nikon.com\/products\/imaging\/lineup\/d90\/en\/d-movie\/\">sample videos<\/a>, however, have gotten me thinking about the possibilities, and film effects pro Stu Maschwitz sees <a href=\"http:\/\/prolost.blogspot.com\/2008\/08\/slr-movies.html\">lots of promise<\/a>.&#160; (He <a href=\"http:\/\/prolost.blogspot.com\/2008\/09\/so-close-canon.html\">calls<\/a> Canon&#8217;s decision to shoot at 30fps instead of at 24 &quot;almost unbearable,&quot; however.) <\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>On the other end of the tech spectrum, I&#8217;m a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/finnegan\/videos\/\">big fan<\/a> of the little Flip video camera.&#160; Now a guy named Reid Gershbein has given a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.royalbaronialtheatre.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/flip-camera-tilt-shift-visual-experiments.html\">tilt-shift appearance<\/a> (how, he doesn&#8217;t say) to footage from the wee cam.&#160; Hmm&#8211;this may motivate me to try applying <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnack\/2006\/03\/faking_tiltshift.html\">Lens Blur<\/a> as a Smart Filter on video using Photoshop Extended.<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Ikonoskop&#8217;s rather potent-looking, weirdly named <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikonoskop.com\/dii\/\">A-cam dII<\/a> is, it would appear, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ikonoskop.com\/blog\/we-seem-to-be-first-supporting-dng\/\">first to support DNG for motion capture<\/a>. &quot;The buzz at IBC is DNG,&quot; they write, &quot;so people seem to understand and start to follow our lead in DNG together with Adobe.&quot; [Via Scott Sheppard]<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Interesting video <em>of<\/em> an SLR: <a href=\"http:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2008-09-04\/925\">Nikon D3 Shutter Release in Super Slow Motion<\/a>.
