Creating that kind of historical overlay is about to get easier.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Computational rephotography,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/gadgetlab\/2010\/07\/camera-software-lets-you-see-into-the-past\/\">says Wired<\/a>, &#8220;is a fancy name for photos taken from the exact same viewpoint as an old photograph. Actually, that\u2019s just rephotography. The &#8216;computational&#8217; part is when software helps out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Adobe researcher Aseem Agarwala, together with MIT&#8217;s\u00a0Fr\u00e9do Durand and Soonmin Bae, are developing some interesting tech here:<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/C02N3BJm0u0&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/C02N3BJm0u0&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newscientist.com\/article\/mg20727704.200-camera-app-puts-you-in-the-footsteps-of-history.html?DCMP=OTC-rss&amp;nsref=online-news\">New Scientist<\/a>,<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The team&#8217;s software runs on a laptop linked to a digital camera.
