I think I&#8217;ve kept my word, though my Twitter account (which didn&#8217;t even exist back then*!) hasn&#8217;t fared quite so well.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"theBeginning.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnack\/files\/2013\/03\/BeginningstheBeginning.jpg\" alt=\"TheBeginning\" width=\"425\" height=\"313\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My God, do I ever love these little guys (Finn &amp; his sequel Henry, codenamed &#8220;El Segundo&#8221; in utero &amp; thus <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/2009\/08\/09\/the-goonie-nomenclature\/\">dubbed Goonie<\/a> by his bro). A few sleep- and oxygen-deprived thoughts (as we&#8217;re <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/\">celebrating<\/a> Finn&#8217;s Fifth at 10,000ft):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&#8217;ve heard it said &#8220;It&#8217;s not amazing that adults make children, so much as that <strong>children make adults<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>A friend remarked that when it comes to raising kids, &#8220;<strong>The days are long but the years are short<\/strong>.&#8221; Yes, days can be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jnack.com\/micronaxx\/2011\/01\/30\/a-little-candor\/\">so long indeed<\/a>\u2014and yet, dang, five years??<\/li>\n<li>Work-wise, I&#8217;ve sometimes likened having kids to having suffered some kind of <strong>traumatic brain injury<\/strong>. I used to work <em>all. the. time.<\/em>\u00a0Now I&#8217;d guess we spend ~40 hours per week kid-wrangling. &#8220;Work smarter, not harder,&#8221; blah blah. Whatever: there&#8217;s no potion to just restore that time &amp; energy. Things do seem to be getting better, little by little. It&#8217;s a game of inches, man\u2026<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have <strong>your heart go walking around outside your body<\/strong>.&#8221; Bingo. (And no, Steve Jobs <a href=\"http:\/\/paidcontent.org\/2011\/10\/12\/419-the-long-backstory-of-steve-jobs-quote-about-parenthood\/\">didn&#8217;t coin<\/a> the phrase.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And lastly I&#8217;m reminded of some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.songmeanings.net\/songs\/view\/36686\/\">Paul Simon<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Well, that was your mother <br \/>And that was your father <br \/>Before you was born dude <br \/>When life was great <br \/>You are the burden of my generation <br \/>I sure do love you <br \/>Let&#8217;s get that straight<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Well said, Paul.
