{"id":3540,"date":"2016-02-22T08:08:36","date_gmt":"2016-02-22T16:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/?p=3540"},"modified":"2016-02-21T23:03:50","modified_gmt":"2016-02-22T07:03:50","slug":"help-me-help-nepal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/22\/help-me-help-nepal\/","title":{"rendered":"Help me help Nepal!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have some exciting, crazy news: Next month I\u2019m <a href=\"http:\/\/effect.org\/technology-rebuild-nepal\">heading to Nepal<\/a>!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m aiming to learn from earthquake relief staff on the ground, assist in their work, and then work with a team of Googlers in a 54-hour hackathon to build technology that\u2019ll help alleviate this and future crises.<\/p>\n<p>This is a team effort, and I\u2019d love to have you as part of the team. You can help in a couple of ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019ve just set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/nacknepal\"><strong>GoFundMe page<\/strong><\/a> to collect donations to Effect.org, the organization arranging the trip. All funds go directly to their efforts (not to my travel expenses, etc.), and Google will match your contribution.<\/li>\n<li><strong>This Thursday in SF<\/strong>, the team is hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/nepal-rises-documentary-viewing-fundraiser-happy-hour-tickets-21462799812\">a happy hour fundraiser<\/a>\u00a0(6-9pm). It\u2019s\u00a0$10 for entry, $20 for 2 free drinks, and $50 for open bar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019ve known me for any length of time, you know that I\u2019ve long been <a href=\"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/20\/what-do-i-stand-for-i-dont-know\/\">searching<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnack\/2012\/02\/reflections-on-guatemala-or-whats-in-a-pen.html\">ways<\/a> to make a more meaningful contribution to the world. Well, it\u2019s time I put more skin in the game. I\u2019m excited that this trip combines learning, hands-on helping, and building lasting solutions.
