Those cameras were connected to Intel servers, which then allowed broadcasters to transmit the contest from various angles and give fans a 360-degree view of the dunks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"604\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HSmchwh3xX8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> \u2028<\/p>\n<p>I wonder to what extent this\u2019ll take off. A lot of sports fans I know are lazy bastards who won\u2019t want this sort of active involvement in the content. I always think of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonion.com\/article\/new-partially-digested-doritos-eliminate-tedious-c-3513\">the Onion\u2019s goof on Doritos<\/a>\u2014&#8221;&#8216;cuz you&#8217;re too biz-zay for chewin\u2019!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, I can imagine a couple of very compelling sports-related experiences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You don goggles &amp; see a huge phalanx of big screens, each presenting a different game (think: a shitty efficiency apartment suddenly puts Dave &amp; Buster\u2019s to shame*), and you\u2019re able to flit among them while getting a steady stream of news, hot chicks (because why not?), and all the ads.<\/li>\n<li>One or more of these broadcasts augments its regular, curated 2D presentation with a bunch of 360\u00ba feeds shot from the sidelines, overhead, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Your coked-up magpie brain now flits among these at warp speed, perceiving only degrees of boredom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, good times, then. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>J.<\/p>\n<p>*Note: Dave &amp; Buster\u2019s, like Donald Trump, exists on a plane beyond shame, but that\u2019s another matter.<\/p>\n<p>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HSmchwh3xX8\">YouTube<\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Intel has acquired some very impressive 3D technology tailored to sports broadcasting: Replay&#8217;s freeD technology created a 3D video rendering of the entire court using 28 ultra-HD cameras placed around the area.
