{"id":4617,"date":"2016-11-02T15:14:15","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T22:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/?p=4617"},"modified":"2016-11-03T00:19:57","modified_gmt":"2016-11-03T07:19:57","slug":"demo-photoshop-adds-in-app-search","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/02\/demo-photoshop-adds-in-app-search\/","title":{"rendered":"Demo: Photoshop adds in-app search"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m blessed &amp; cursed by a long memory, especially for useless details.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing Photoshop\u2019s new Find feature, I think back to 10+ years ago, when <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnack\/2007\/04\/command_lines_back_to_the_future.html\">I was pushing hard<\/a> for Photoshop to offer a universal search feature for both commands and help content. Beyond basic search, I wanted the panel to enable <strong>running simple script-like commands<\/strong> for replicating objects, applying fills, etc. Inspired in part by InDesign\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/indesign\/using\/formatting-text.html\">Quick Apply<\/a> panel, the vision was similar to Maya\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maya_Embedded_Language\">MEL<\/a> language: <strong>show history steps as script<\/strong>, and let users copy\/modify\/run those to do awesome things.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of search in the Layers panel, I failed* to get the feature shipped (partly because Mac OS\u2019s then-new Help menu feature did a lot of the job). Illustrator, however, managed to ship <a href=\"http:\/\/veerle-v2.duoh.com\/blog\/comments\/the_adobe_knowhow_palette\/\">the Knowhow panel<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NewImage.png\" src=\"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/NewImage-1.png\" alt=\"NewImage\" width=\"599\" height=\"237\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Almost no one (knowone? #dadjokes) used it or, I\u2019m sure, remembers it today (including inside Adobe)\u2014but try, try again. Photoshop\u2019s new Find command offers some slick integration with Adobe Stock.
