{"id":4641,"date":"2016-11-05T07:56:26","date_gmt":"2016-11-05T14:56:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/?p=4641"},"modified":"2016-11-04T10:56:59","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T17:56:59","slug":"an-expressive-new-camera-app-coming-from-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/05\/an-expressive-new-camera-app-coming-from-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"An expressive new camera app coming from Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Snapchat often describes itself as being \u201ca camera company,\u201d and clearly Facebook (owning Instagram, and having bought <a href=\"http:\/\/petapixel.com\/2016\/03\/10\/facebook-acquires-popular-face-swap-camera-app-battle-snapchat\/\">MSQRD<\/a>), is taking a similar path:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The new camera will be accessible by simply swiping right while you\u2019re looking at your news feed, making it easy to quickly snap a filtered moment to share.<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0TechCrunch reports that there will be filters for your face (selfie masks, overlaid graphics, and geofilters), art-themed filters, and filters that \u201crespond to your body\u2019s movements.\u201d\u00a0<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We\u2019ll have to see, though: A lot of the appeal of Snapchat\u2019s filters has been in their social context: Here today, gone today\u2014transient fun. As I\u2019ve often said, the genius of Instagram was in helping regular people be a bit better, and the genius of Snapchat has been in <em>letting them not care<\/em>. Posting lasting stuff to FB generally equals caring. But who knows, perhaps like Instagram FB will introduce \u201chere today, gone today\u201d ephemeral stories. (I\u2019d certainly use them.)
