All this week you can have a little Italian plumber &amp; his kart drive along with you:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>To get started, you\u2019ll need to first update your app from Google Play or the App Store. Next, simply click on the yellow \u201c?\u201d icon found on the bottom right of your Google Maps app on Android or iOS. You\u2019ll then see a prompt to enable Mario Time!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Whenever I see these little \u201cwhy the heck not?\u201d bits from Google, I think of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.subtraction.com\/2014\/07\/02\/smarty-pins\/\">this observation from Khoi Vinh<\/a>, occasioned by the Smarty Pins map\/trivia game:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Apple fans like myself often criticize Google for doing things that Apple would never do, and Smarty Pins is a prime example of that. Aside from being an unfair criticism, it\u2019s pointless. The fact that Google endeavors to produce silly things like this is on the whole a positive thing, I believe. It\u2019s <strong>acting according to its own compass, which is what every company should be doing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At Adobe I used to say, \u201cWe\u2019ll never out-Apple Apple.
