Gorgeous: “American artist Tauba Auerbach presents the 8 x 8 x 8-inch hard-back cubes illustrating the RGB color scheme in a page-by-page medium. a digital offset print on paper with airbrushed cloth cover and book edges create a colorful reference volume of all the colors in existence.” [Via Chris Peppel]
- 99 Shades of Grey: As CreativePro writes, “For pledges ranging from $1 to $99, backers can get the book in soft-cover, hard-cover, or ebook formats, t-shirts, posters, and the privilege of naming a particular shade of grey.”
Or as someone just quipped about the Illustrator 1.0 video I uploaded a while back, “ANY SHADE OF GREY I WANT! <3”
Offset printing (even 6-color offset) is incapable of reproducing wide gamut RGB color models, let alone “all colors in existence”, which even wide gamut RGB display technology can’t do either. For example, there are people who are tetrachromats with four color receptors, even if you want to narrowly define “color” as what humans see.
What an audacious and beautiful thing Tauba Auerbach’s color book is.
Techno comments aside about whether the book REALLY contains all the colors in existence (I mean, does it really matter?), just the idea of creating the book in the first place is, in itself, a high-level work of art.
I’d LOVE to have one at my house.
Bravo…
Thanks for the mention! We love adobe, and of course the whole book is being laid out in creative suite!
They reached their goal and fell just short of $10,000.
