{"id":12528,"date":"2007-10-21T11:52:51","date_gmt":"2007-10-21T11:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnackdev\/2007\/10\/jiggle-it-or-hal-possesses-my-mac.html"},"modified":"2007-10-21T11:52:51","modified_gmt":"2007-10-21T11:52:51","slug":"jiggle_it_or_hal_possesses_my_mac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2007\/10\/21\/jiggle_it_or_hal_possesses_my_mac\/","title":{"rendered":"&quot;Jiggle it&quot; (or, HAL possesses my Mac)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Heh&#8211;I&#8217;m not sure why I feel compelled to pass this along, other than that it&#8217;s a nice counterpoint to  the rigor &amp; logic that we associate with computing.<\/p>\n<p>Last night on a plane, I plugged my headphones into my MacBook Pro, only to see a weird red light issuing from the headphone port.&#160; The sense that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HAL_9000\">HAL 9000<\/a> was now peering out of my Mac was compounded by my just having watched <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunshinedna.com\/\">Sunshine<\/a><\/em><em>, <\/em>a flick featuring a sometimes disobedient flight computer.&#160; The really odd thing was that with this light pouring out, I lost access to my internal speakers.&#160; Headphones in: no prob; headphones out: sounds of silence (<em>something something, neon god they made<\/em>&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>The solution, I learned from a Mac <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.macrumors.com\/archive\/index.php\/t-207807.html\">forum<\/a>, boils down to &#8220;jiggle it.&#8221;&#160; And, what do you know, after jabbing HAL in the eye repeatedly, I once again have working internal speakers.&#160; I feel like the Fonz, smacking the jukebox into shape.&#160; Anyway, it&#8217;s kind of funny that sometimes all this technology gets resolved with a good old-fashioned jiggle. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Heh&#8211;I&#8217;m not sure why I feel compelled to pass this along, other than that it&#8217;s a nice counterpoint to the rigor &amp; logic that we associate with computing.
