{"id":12585,"date":"2007-12-11T10:29:02","date_gmt":"2007-12-11T10:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnackdev\/2007\/12\/preview-illustrator-id-docs-on-leopard.html"},"modified":"2007-12-11T10:29:02","modified_gmt":"2007-12-11T10:29:02","slug":"preview_illustrator_id_docs_on_leopard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2007\/12\/11\/preview_illustrator_id_docs_on_leopard\/","title":{"rendered":"Preview Illustrator, ID docs on Leopard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mac OS X Leopard introduced a rather handy feature called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/macosx\/features\/quicklook.html\">Quick Look<\/a>, offering the ability to preview a number of file formats right in the Finder, without opening additional apps.&#160; (Select a file, then tap the spacebar&#8211;slick.)&#160; Unfortunately Illustrator (.AI) and InDesign (.INDD) files aren&#8217;t supported right out of the box.&#160; That&#8217;s where the $15 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.code-line.com\/software\/sneakpeekpro.html\">SneakPeekPro<\/a> comes in, adding EPS, AI, and INDD file support to Quick Look.&#160; I&#8217;ve taken it for a quick spin, and it seems to work just as advertised.&#160; [<a href=\"http:\/\/rwillustrator.blogspot.com\/2007\/11\/preview-illustrator-and-indesign-files.html\">Via<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>As someone helping steer Adobe Bridge, I was initially concerned that Quick Look might erode Bridge&#8217;s reason for being.&#160; After all, if you&#8217;ve got quick previews in an app you&#8217;ve already launched (the Finder), why launch another?<\/p>\n<p>Now that I&#8217;ve lived with Leopard for a month, however, I feel  confident that each tool has its place &amp; its unique value.&#160; Bridge offers rich metadata display and editing; file rating &amp; filtering; richer PSD previews (no composite required); Camera Raw integration; hand-off to Photoshop, InDesign, and other Suite apps (for automated vectorization, contact sheets, Web galleries, etc.); integrated slide show; floating Compact Mode; and quite a bit more not present in the Finder\/Quick Look.&#160; That&#8217;s not a knock on the latter, of course; as I say, different strokes for different folks.<\/p>\n<p>We now need to keep working on Bridge&#8217;s launch time (making it feel as much like a no-brainer to launch as a Quick Look window) while revising the interface to help people discover the good stuff that&#8217;s already present.&#160; And, wouldn&#8217;t you know it, that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re doing. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>[Update: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daringfireball.net\">John Gruber<\/a> points out this <a href=\"http:\/\/d.hatena.ne.jp\/t_trace\/20071125\/p2\">free QL plug-in<\/a> for displaying the contents of ZIP files.
