Forget about using tablets for storage: the big win is using a tablet&#8217;s big screen for &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chimping\">chimping<\/a>&#8221; (reviewing &amp; flagging one&#8217;s shots).<\/p>\n<p>Thus I&#8217;m happy to see that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2011\/04\/12\/eye-fi-launching-new-8gb-wireless-sd-card-today-kicking-out-dir\/\">a new 8GB Eye-Fi card<\/a> enables a direct connection between cameras &amp; tablets. \u00a0I&#8217;d love to put my iPad in my backpack &amp; transfer to it while hiking around. \u00a0Two snags, though:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The card is SD format, and my SLR uses Compact Flash. Something tells me a solution isn&#8217;t imminent.<\/li>\n<li>Wireless transfer requires one&#8217;s tablet to be switched on. Long battery life or no, I&#8217;m not going to leave the iPad on constantly while hiking, driving, etc. Solving this problem very likely requires support from Apple, Google, and hardware makers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Still, the development is very encouraging.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I noted last year, photographers have been incredibly clear in wanting wireless tethering between their cameras &amp; tablets.
