Premiere Pro notably included the new Mercury Engine, offering breakthrough performance by tapping into customers&#8217; graphics hardware (GPUs).<\/p>\n<p>How has the market&#8211;especially the Mac market&#8211;responded? Here&#8217;s what I gleaned from a <a href=\"http:\/\/tv.adobe.com\/watch\/industry-trends\/adobes-vision-for-professional-video\/\">presentation<\/a> by Adobe VP Jim Guerard:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adobe&#8217;s Professional Video business grew 22% year-over-year (compared to Apple\u2019s stated 15% growth in pro video). The video industry on the whole grew on average of 7% year over year.<\/li>\n<li>30% growth of overall unit volume.<\/li>\n<li>45% growth on Mac unit volume;\u00a044% revenue growth on the Mac.<\/li>\n<li>Premiere Pro\n<ul>\n<li>Growth Premiere Pro of over 1.5 million seats to 2.3 million in 2010 (compared to Apple\u2019s stated &#8220;just over 2 million&#8221; seats of Final Cut Pro).<\/li>\n<li>This does not include legacy seats and is not based on upgrades.\u00a0It&#8217;s completely new software seats of Premiere Pro.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in making the switch, <a href=\"http:\/\/tv.adobe.com\/show\/switching-to-adobe-premiere-pro-cs5\">check out these videos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New After Effects PM Steve Forde is candid in writing about how <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/sforde\/2011\/06\/27\/we-are-here-to-compete\/\">he didn&#8217;t like Premiere<\/a> &amp; ignored it before coming to Adobe. Adobe&#8217;s commitment shown in the CS5 rewrite, however, and the results it yielded were part of what drew him to join the company.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To all those asking me for comment on the launch of [Final Cut Pro X],&#8221; Steve writes, &#8220;I have none.
