{"id":1798,"date":"2015-01-04T22:43:23","date_gmt":"2015-01-05T06:43:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/?p=1798"},"modified":"2015-01-05T01:40:05","modified_gmt":"2015-01-05T09:40:05","slug":"when-will-wearable-cameras-be-a-thing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2015\/01\/04\/when-will-wearable-cameras-be-a-thing\/","title":{"rendered":"When will wearable cameras be a thing?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Vacationing with my family last week, I found myself wishing I was wearing a camera that could capture images as I walked around, then let me smoothly fly through the results (e.g. as Microsoft\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2013\/12\/10\/imicrosoft-releases-3rd-generation-of-photosynth-turns-3d-images-into-video-like-experiences\/\">Photosynth<\/a>\u00a0does):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/photosynth.net\/preview\/embed\/bf591263-4b2f-4421-b3af-2034f38526e7?delayload=true&amp;autoplay=false\" width=\"600\" height=\"494\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Now the startup Narrative (n\u00e9e Memoto) is releasing a second version of their tiny clip-on cam:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NewImage.png\" src=\"http:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/NewImage.png\" alt=\"NewImage\" width=\"584\" height=\"309\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Would I pay $200 for it? Hmm\u2014I don\u2019t think I would yet, at least without an ultra-slick way to create fly-throughs.<\/p>\n<p>Still, this all strikes me as a <em>when<\/em>, not an if. Expect people to keep dismissing it as they did Twitter (\u201cIt\u2019s for navel-gazers who just want to tell me what they had for breakfast\u201d) and calling it creepy (\u201cI don\u2019t want a camera staring at me while I\u2019m talking to you in a meeting\u201d), until somebody (GoPro?) devises a killer travel application. And good Lord, might we someday see people actually experiencing their experiences with their <em>eyeballs<\/em> instead of through a little screen, knowing that recording duties are being taken care of?
