{"id":18089,"date":"2013-04-03T08:04:02","date_gmt":"2013-04-03T15:04:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.adobe.com\/jnack\/?p=8924"},"modified":"2013-04-03T08:04:02","modified_gmt":"2013-04-03T15:04:02","slug":"social-media-paparazzi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jnack.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/03\/social-media-paparazzi\/","title":{"rendered":"Social media &amp; paparazzi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hmm\u2014interesting to hear <a href=\"http:\/\/bits.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/03\/26\/instagram-and-the-new-era-of-paparazzi\/\">via the NYT<\/a> that social media are cutting out the middleman, and thus reducing the price paparazzi can command:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe old school way was that you would get an e-mail that said, \u2018I was on vacation and saw so-and-so and I\u2019d like to sell it to you,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cFans are far less likely to do that now. They\u2019d rather share it themselves first on Twitter and Instagram than sell it immediately. People are dedicated to gaining their own followings and that\u2019s the best way to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Photos can go for a fraction of their historically high cost, she said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s certainly devalued by the fact that it\u2019s already out there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Update: Design Taxi has a story about the <a href=\"http:\/\/designtaxi.com\/news\/356860\/The-New-York-Times-Runs-An-Instagram-Photo-On-Front-Page\/\">NY Times running an Instagram photo on their front page<\/a>. I found this comment from photographer Peter Krogh interesting:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What&#8217;s crazy to me is that the Times is granting a perpetual, sublicensable, royalty free, fully-indemnified license to its images to Mark Zuckerberg.
