Paintball war set for Snite

Ghost of Mestrovic The Student Union Board and the National Endowment for the Arts will be sponsoring a paint ball war in the Snite Museum later this month. The three hour mock combat is expected to destroy somewhere from three dozen to one hundred valuable works of art.

"It's totally worth it," explained Fred Dorfmann, curator of the Snite Museum, "no one knows we're here and beyond that, no one cares. The exposure might really put us on the map."

SUB hopes to get at least 100 students into the Snite, most for the first time, for the paint ball war. "We think this is exactly what the students want from their elected officials. It's on campus, it involves the wanton destruction of valuable artwork and it is totally alcohol-free."

ROTC students will not be allowed to participate. This decision was made because Notre Dame is a Catholic University and organizers felt allowing ROTC students to participate in the paint ball war would unduly emphasize violence.

"SUB and student government believe in non-violent means of conflict resolution," said Student Body Vice President Erek Nass. "That's why we're sponsoring the war."

Student Body President Matt Griffin did not have time in his busy schedule to comment on this matter. When The Inquisition contacted him for information he would only say, "Shut up, no comment and if you call me again I'll have you expelled. Get the hell away from me." Bob Davie quote

High on the list of student targets in the Snite will be the murals of Christopher Columbus subjugating savage people for his own evil purposes and then subjecting them to an intricate series of tests, each more difficult than the last. This is expected to pave the way for more wholesale destruction of artwork on campus, to make room for more of those spinning red and blue arrows.

Henry Cunningham, a senior art and design major said that the sooner the sculptures in front of O'Shaugnessy were dismantled, the better. "I hate them," he stated, "They freakin' suck and imperialism and yeah. . . you know, like oppression and things like that."

No word has yet been received on whether or not Bob Davie will participate in the war, but he did say this much to our staff: "I'm very, very excited about paint ball wars in the Snite. It's for the students; it's Notre Dame and it's all ball."
