Borg deman inclusion

Controversy has struck the Notre Dame campus again as BND/SMC or, Borg of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's, demanded that they be included in the University's non-discrimination statement.

The College Democrats have taken the lead on this issue. J.P. Cooney, President of CD, stated, "It's time the University lived up to its obligation to welcome all of us, no matter what our gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or cybernetic status is."

"Resistance is futile," stated six of twelve, the leader of the underground Borg student organization.

Opposition to granting the Borg recognition has surfaced in several areas.

"The Borg are responsible for obliterating thousands of civilizations and billions of people," declared Rex Rakow, director of campus security. "Including them in the non-discrimination clause would result in the assimilation of everyone here into the collective, where would live out our lives as mindless drones without personality."

"We always fear those who are different," countered Cooney. Aerial shot of Proposed Borg Cube

The Observer has already called for an immediate end to what it calls the "persecution" of the Borg.

University Officials have announced that a standing committee will be established to consider granting the Borg organization full rights as a student group. A highly placed official, who declined to be identified, explained, "We want to make it clear that we welcome the Borg, as we welcome all people into our community, with love, charity and in a completely non-legally binding way."

"We're not sure if we are prepared to accommodate large numbers of Borg on campus," explained Father Malloy. "We lack the Biomechanical recharge stations where they communicate with their collective. We will be updating our facilities within the year. Construction of a standard Borg cube will begin after the Stepan Center is demolished.

The cube will be several miles high and many are concerned that it will affect the view of the sun from campus, but University officials downplayed this. The Basilica and the Dome will be jacked up (again) so that they remain the highest points on campus.
