The Configurator team has put together a rather comprehensive user guide that features screenshots and guidance on using the application. The app is designed to be very straightforward to use, but the guide can help answer questions as you start using Configurator more intensively. The team has also provided a list of known issues–rough edges & their workarounds.
Don’t be shy about letting us know how you’d like to see the tool evolve. We’d like to make it both broader (supporting more Suite apps) and deeper (offering richer functionality and more refinements). A few ideas we’re kicking around:
- Support containers (sub-tabs, accordions, etc.) that would make it easy to provide more content within a single panel
- Offer better localization/auto-layout (so that a tab could be switched from English to German to Japanese on the fly; this is essential if we’re to use Configurator to create content that ships in the box)
- Include more widgets that can be dragged in (e.g. a foreground/background color indicator/selector like the one at the bottom of the PS toolbar)

A few things that might already be possible, but that I couldn’t figure out how to do:
* ‘Global’ variables — i.e., the ability to store state information across button presses
* Dynamic labels — Related to the above, for instance, a “Show Layer” / “Hide Layer” toggle button
* Event listeners — be able to affect the label or layout of the panel when certain events occur.
But otherwise a really cool tool — I’m looking forward to using it and experimenting. Must read up on the Photoshop Scripting APIs now…
It’d be great to be able to assign an image to buttons. For instance, I’d like to start a script that switches the tool to the pen tool in precise mode (crosshairs). Or it’d be nice to have a library of buttons, such as those in the adjustment panel, so that I can make a small panel that will always have the adjustment layers I use most (curves and hue&saturation), even when the adustment panel is currently in edit mode.
On a side note, is there a way to accept an adjustment layer settings to get back to the chooser using the keyboard, or do you have to click on the back arrow or another, non-adjustment layer?

After running Configurator I just tried to extend it with Flex (scripting a panel), don’t know where to post this information – your forums are silent. But most of the tutorials from Photoshop Panel Developers Guide don’t work and CRASH Photoshop.
It seems the only people developing panels for Photoshop is your Configurator team, because I cannot get any answers regarding Panel development.
There’s no info, no support, no answers, and I don’t know where to post this, so sorry for an offtopic.
what about being able to group elements to better align them together?
the scaling handles of the element boxes are working only on lower middle, right middle and lower right corner. shouldn’t they should work on all 8 positions? (mac issue or intended?)

i can call my favourite scripts by a button now and i can copy/paste scripts from estk directly into a button script entry box. great!

I’ve played with this a little bit, and the first thing that occurred to me was that it needs some sort of magnetic auto alignment guides like the ones in Interface Builder.
I’ll tell you, if I could use this to create a new screen edge-aligned toolbar with bigger icons that are clickable across the entire face of the bar, I’d be highly stoked.

I’m loving this thing! I do have some ideas:
1. It needs to be able to add the foreground/background swatch picker from the toolbox. I’d love to be able to use my own configurator toolbox instead of the Photoshop default one, but until it has the foreground/background picker – I cannot disable the default toolbox. I can’t work without it.
2. It’d be great if I could assign keyboard shortcuts to script buttons.
[One alternative is to have the buttons call scripts that you put into your Presets/Scripts folder, and then to assign keyboard shortcuts to the corresponding menu items. –J.]
3. It would be an amazing step forward if configurator could create a panel that read/write metadata. I know there’s an example of creating a panel like this in the Developer SDK, but the Flex/Actionscripting/etc required to build it is over my head.

The Configurator needs the ability to add the Default Colors buttons.. and the ability to add the Quick Mask button. Until I can replace the default Tools panel with my own, Configurator is not terribly useful, so there can’t be any typical tools exclusions from what I can add to my own panel.
