The team behind Kuler, Adobe’s color harmony creation & sharing site, has introduced a neat new feature:
Explore the Kuler global community with Community Pulse, a big picture view of color usage. This is a beta feature, using data visualization (screenshot) to show the relative popularity of colors across a sampling of countries, time periods, and tags.
To check it out,
- Sign in with your Adobe ID to play around with it
- Mouse over the histogram to see the hues on the color wheel
- Try the granularity slider to see more/less color detail
- Use the comparison icon (two circles) to compare/contrast
If you have questions, check out Kuler Help. And don’t forget to check out the Kuler panel in Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, and InDesign CS4 (see Window->Extensions->Kuler). Here’s a couple of screenshots, plus a video demo. [Via]
Would it be feasible to add a Kuler interface to Dreamweaver?
[I would expect that to be pretty easy. I’ve passed your suggestion along to the DW team. Thus far they haven’t made integration a priority. –J.]
[Update: Devin Fernandez from the DW team points out that WebAssist has integrated Kuler with DW. –J.]
Being color-challenged, I find Kuler very useful for picking combinations of colors that will work well together for websites (background, headers, table backgrounds, etc.), but it is time consuming to have to go to Kuler as a standalone or in Photoshop or Illustrator to access Kuler.
Remember, the degree of success of new features Adobe introduces can be judged in large part by the number of requests to integrate those new features with many of Adobe’s other products.
Thanks for the info, I had never heard of it and checked it out. Very cool stuff !
IMPORTANT QUESTION:
When using Kuler, it started using my email address as my user name rather than the username I had chosen.
This is a big privacy issue as my email address is my name.
So I changed my email address but that means I cannot use the screenname I have used globally for 10 years.
