Check out this rather brilliant (pun intended) Kickstarter project:
BLAZE is a front light with super-bright LEDs, but it also projects the symbol of a bike down onto the road ahead of the cyclist. It’s adjustable, but ideally about 5m in front. It alerts road users ahead of the cyclist of their presence, helping to prevent them turning across their path (especially the big ones like buses and trucks!). Making the cyclist more visible and increasing their footprint on the road.

This idea has one flaw – the cyclist logo should be projected upside down, so that it is instantly recognisable, this is precisely the same mistake as Apple made with its first generation of Apple logo’d laptops they put it up the ‘correct’ way until someone said hey, who wants to see the logo upside down when the Mac is open and in use, they reversed it – someone should let the inventor know, so it can be more useful.

OK, I jumped slightly ahead, without watching the movie, but I still hold that oncoming vehicles and pedestrians would react faster if the logo was seen by them as upright. Vehicles alongside only need to see the green light, so I still stand by my comment to a degree, but perhaps if the logo were less confused…

Clever and cool. Only 5 days left on Kickstarter, to order or not?
Interesting idea on logo orientation @Rod.
Good cycling skills e.g. owning the road when appropriate, appropriate positioning of bike in traffic/traffic jams, and constant good observation are just as important.
