Photoshop CS6 subscribers can download a new panel for applying cool paper texture effects.
- If you don’t yet have it, download the Adobe Exchange panel for Photoshop CS6 (note the Download button up top). Double click the package to install it.
- Restart Photoshop & then open the panel by choosing Window > Extensions > Adobe Exchange.
- Search for “paper.”
Here’s Russell’s video demonstrating how to use the package.
giving some kind of funky security error about unknown certificate authority when you try installing the textures its the pro ones right?
[Yeah, I saw the same problem, and I’m told it’s being fixed. –J.]
Please ignore warnings about an ‘Unknown Publisher’. These dialogues will disappear with a forthcoming update to the panel and the new Extension Manager 6.0.5.
thanks for the update!
This is one great script. It has become one of my most used features inside of Photoshop.
Ah another freebie withheld from those of us who have forked out for the full retail product. It’s always nice to feel wanted and appreciated.
well there is one for non cloud members too not sure the difference though.
Yup with you Mikael, its worth spending thousands of dollars to get a lessor product. Well done Adobe
Guys, while Russell Brown is a legitimate genius, placing photos of paper textures as an Overlay Layer is in no way a Pro Feature.
Just go to LostAndTaken or someplace, drag to layer, shift-option-o, and you already have this feature.
Most “creative cloud only” features are for the masses who consider Photoshop, Illustrator etc. some kind of strange magic.
Sorry John but every time I see ‘Creative Cloud Only’ it just disappoint me…….Adobe…PLEASE listen and get back on track. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you!!!
With Respect
Richard
I don’t know Richard, I don’t think Adobe consider us loyal Applications purchasers the hand that feed them any more. Now that the CC is running the don’t have to care about us any more they have a new master, the easy dollar not the people like us that have supported them to get to this position.
To think I have paid full price for product and updates for each release of PS & LR, and now I am reminded how the bastard child feels….. In the past there have been more advanced freebies from the genius of Mr. Brown and now this shows how much we are appreciated.
Tried to download the papers however have not been successful. A number of us are having ongoing issues with signing into Creative Cloud and in this case I am unable to sign into Photoshop/Adobe Exchange to allow me to download the papers. Adobe support have been looking into the sign-in issue but it has been quite a few months now.
Hi Cathy,
Really sorry to hear about your sign-in issue. Adobe Exchange uses the same system (internally it’s called Identity Management System) or IMS. If you have no joy with Tech Support pelase sign up for the Adobe Exchange prerelease program and you can post your issue to the forums and one of our engineers may be able to help in the mean time. Also if you want to create products for Adobe Exchange the prerelease is a great place to join and seek advice from others:

Thanks. Will do as you have suggested if I have no luck.
I’d rather pay for a service that keeps getting better than a single software package that is outdated soon after it ships. But alas, it seems some of these features are available for both types of customers.
For those of us used to the old way, we may want to embrace some of the advantages of change – along with baring the annoyances.
John,
Every time the creative cloud issue gets raised .. You get remarkably silent.
[I know. It’s a sensitive issue, and it’s important that I don’t speak out of turn. But believe me, I hear you, and it’s a big ongoing point of concern. I hate hearing that customers are unhappy—particularly our longest-serving, most loyal customers. –J.]
Why a scaled down version has not been addressed is beyond me…. Like a bundled Photoshop and LR.
[I think that a PS/LR bundle would be great. –J.]
Third party software is getting pretty good now with selected editing so perhaps it’s near time to jump ship and use LR only. Adobe’s worst nightmare.
Special perks are great for Creative Cloud subscribers but once again, Adobe alienates those that work where computers aren’t allowed to be attached to an external network.
Hi Steve, while yes it’s true you need to be connected to the Internet to download this product once it’s downloaded you do not need to be connected. We are looking into ways we could maybe have internal servers within an organization be able to handle distribution and updates of products. Thanks for highlighting this use case.
This video seems to require the use of something called QuickTime. Must be some advanced technology that I’m not familiar with. Or perhaps it’s something that like Flash and Java is so old and bug-ridden that most us no longer employ it.
It’s an MPEG4 file so most browsers should cope with it. Even with HMTL 5 the final video standards do not seem fully settled so you are going to need to live with plug-ins for at least a little while longer. If there is interest we could post this video on Adobe TV which serves up multiple video formats to overcome potential plug-in issues.
If there is interest? This is an Adobe initiative to promote the benefits of Creative Cloud.
I will take that as a yes then! 🙂
By all means do so. But also click on the link to the video in Explorer, which I believe falls witin the category of “most” browsers. Without crappy old QuickTime, no joy. C’mon, you can do better than that. You’re Adobe!
I just emailed the Adobe TV team to try and get this converted and posted. I’m working on it but it’s not my video. Are you using the latest version of Internet Explorer? Feel free to try it on another browser. They are free 😉
Yes, I use the latest version of Explorer. As well as FF and Chroms. As someone who has building sites since 1995, I do appreciate your pointing out that browsers are free.
Cosmo, there was a healthy dose of sarcasm in my comment I hope that’s OK and on a serious note I am really pleased that you confirmed my initial though that Russell’s video should be posted on another video site, which would significantly improve browser compatibility.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Heh, no worries. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
Russell’s video is now on Adobe TV:

Any info about 3d textures because 3d textures are very popular and they are now used for many purposes especially in the graphic designing ..? LMK
I think 3D textures would be a great addition but I know Russell wants to add more features to the panel before considering adding more textures. Certainly anyone that wants to submit 3D Textures to Adobe Exchange is welcome to and it’s free to submit right now. Join here:

Hope that helps.
