The Camera Raw 4.6 and DNG Converter Release Candidates (RC) are now available on Adobe Labs. As Lightroom/Camera Raw PM Tom Hogarty explains,
The “release candidate” label indicates that the plug-in is well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to all of our customers. The Camera Raw team would like the community to help verify the quality of the plug-in through normal usage as this will ensure that the plug-in is tested on a diversity of hardware and software configurations not available internally at Adobe.
This release includes official camera support for the following cameras:
-
Fuji Finepix IS Pro
-
Nikon D700
-
Nikon D90
-
Nikon Coolpix P6000
It also adds preliminary (unofficial) support for these new camera models:
-
Canon Rebel XS
-
Canon 50D
-
Olympus SP-565 UZ
-
Sony A900
-
Sigma DP1
Tom explains a bit about what unofficial support means later in his post.
Wow Camera Raw 4.6 available on Adobe Labs.. great adobe
let me test it with some chdk RAWs.
I’m a bit sad Panasonic DMC-LX3 wasn’t included in this release. It’s one of the most respectable compacts out there.
[We’re eager to support the camera & are in touch with Panasonic. –J.]
And, you still have to convert the Sigma DP1 raws to linear DNGs with DNG Converter, even after this upgrade, right?
OK, that sounds great!
I have just received my 50D, and also just updated to ACR 4.6 BETA. At this point it is working fine in BRIDGE CS3 and PS CS3. There is no THUMBNAIL support for my iMAC Finder yet – hopefully someone with sort that out soon. My 40D CR2 files thumbnail just fine.
[I’m sure Apple will update their raw support at some point, if they haven’t already (try choosing “Software Update” from beneath the Apple menu). As an alternative you can convert your CR2 files to DNG & preview/edit them via Apple software. –J.]
Thanks for the beta, folks! 🙂
I wonder if I am missing something?
I have the LX3 (it’s mentioned on the Adobe site as being in the C.R. – 4.6 download), & having manually loaded the 2X ZIP files (DNG Camera RAW 4.6 and now the Camera RAW 5.1 (from this site’s link which contains a new Camera RAW 8BI that comes with the 5.1 download) onto C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats and having purged the Cashe, nothing!
BooHoo!
Please advise what I’m doing so wrong!
Thanks
Tim
