Cool, animated stereo photos realy work!
There is a junk shop called the ‘Black Hole’, which is filled with detritus from the Los Alamos National Lab. Most of this stuff is old parts and equipment that is not very interesting in and of itself. However, there are a couple of huge cameras that were to have been used to record multiple frames of nuclear explosions.
They were built in wooden houses, and used a single strip of continuous film. The film was wound once around a cylinder and each ‘frame’ was represented by a single mirror. The entire assembly spun past the fixed aperture, and at the right moment, the shutter was opened, exposing all the frames sequentially with one ‘click’.
I’ll see if I can dig up a photo or two of the assembly.
Love the 3D images from Japan. That’s inspiring. Thanks for the idea.
