I’m delighted to say that the new Adobe CC desktop apps, plus a variety of new publishing & collaboration features, are now available. Log into the new creative.adobe.com to download the new versions.
There’s so much that’s new that I won’t even attempt to list features here (rather, I’ll keep posting individual pieces about things I find especially interesting), but you can get a quick overview on this Creative Cloud team blog post. They talk about what’s available now & what’s just around the corner (e.g. Typekit fonts on the desktop, automated Web graphics export from Photoshop, and more). For Photoshop-specific questions, check out this FAQ.
And, for the first time since the launch of Adobe Creative Suite, I won’t be upgrading to the new version on launch day.
Until Adobe regains sanity with regard to Creative Cloud and offers a proper exit strategy (or ideally just a proper perpetual license), I won’t be upgrading. Not because I wouldn’t like to, but because you have made it impossible for a loyal customer to upgrade.
Yup, same here. I always used to pre-order all the upgrades. Kinda feels weird not having the “latest” version, but I’m still getting work done for my clients and my wallet is still fat with cash that Adobe won’t be getting unless they change their policies and the whole CC scam, I mean scheme.
Yes, what happened to Adobe “listening” to its customers regarding an exit strategy? Perhaps that was included in the announcement and I just missed it? I am -not- being sarcastic — I really expected Adobe to do the right thing.
We are continuing to explore solutions around a number of concerns.
This blog post is still relevant:

Poor show. Adobe obviously still out to try their luck with what IMO amounts to ripping off their customers. Renting is a mugs game.
I disagree. And I’m not a mug thank you very much.
I disagree as well.
I agree. The only thing worse than renting is renting on a contract with cancelation charges.
Agree 100%.
And for european customers (which have to pay $975/year for the yearly commitment option and $1450/year for the ability to cancel anytime option) it’s not even renting, it’s blind robbery.
(No, the difference is not based in ANY value added tax or extra cost of operating in Europe. For one, the tax is less than 1/4 of the price hike, and second, no other US software company does the same rip-off).
Absolutely brilliant. I only have one gripe but at the same time, I expect this was due to the ‘new’ release. I would have liked it if I could have overwritten or replaced CS6 🙂 That said … it’s smooth, SUPER fast … and all the tools I have been eager to use are there and I’m a very happy camper 🙂 No real reason for people to complain here. Except that it’s the internet and that’s what people do. If they want to stay with CS6, they can. No one’s forcing them to upgrade 🙂
Thanks for that. I wondered if it would overwrite the CS6 versions. I guess I will manually uninstall them all first.
> No real reason for people to complain here. Except that it’s the internet and that’s what people do
Well, actually there are reasons. There’s a lot of reasons listed in the two Blogpost concerning the licensing model. If they don’t apply to you (which i doubt) that’s fine. But saying “there is no problem” is just plain out wrong.
A few examples: People explained how CC doesn’t fit their funding model (people in science), how it gets more than twice as expensive, how they were shut ouf of their paid software, some have workstations with very limited internet. And that’s just what i can remember from the top of my head.
By the way: nobody is trying to take the CC away from you. That is a perfectly fine option. But many of us felt, that it is less fine as the ONLY option.
Well said Claudius.
“””No real reason for people to complain here.”””
You mean:
“My wallet can take it, my buying habits and business is not harmed and I am American so I get it for 100% less, so I could not give a fuck for what issues other have”.
Here, a fixed it for you.
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-57589309-92/adobe-competitors-pounce-after-subscription-backlash/
Boycott lazy Adobe.
Adobe is lazy like Steve Jobs said.
http://www.wired.com/business/2010/01/googles-dont-be-evil-mantra-is-bullshit-adobe-is-lazy-apples-steve-jobs/
For anyone who thinks any of the 3rd party products mentioned in that article as “competitors” to Photoshop would be a replacement for their needs, Photoshop is already overkill and it probably really *is* a good time to consider making the downgrade – both for the financial savings and for the smaller, simpler application of choice. (No snark intended – a lot of people want to use Photoshop. Far fewer actually need much of what it does that other applications don’t.)
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Quark, though. Adobe proved that’s a tough market to crack when they finally supplanted it with InDesign. Would people be mad enough at Adobe to forget why they left Quark to begin with?
I am very impressed with Xara Designer Pro. I understand there is a new version being released soon and I am looking forward to see what else it will have to offer.
@Dave/@Tink
Why not stick to your own experience or view? No need to call others mugs, or to assert that others have no real reason to complain – they decide that, not you.
Good point 🙂
Its free speech and having an opinion. Dave doesn’t see it the same as me, that’s fine, I appreciate he has an opinion on the matter as is prepared to post it.
Nowt to do with free speech or having an opinion – it’s about making statements you can’t justify.
I always though an opinion didn’t have to be justified. Thats what makes it an opinion, and not fact.
There ae assertions and then there are assessments. Not being clear on the difference is at the heart of much human suffering.
I’m just suggesting you don’t imply others are mugs.
Maybe the term “a mugs game” was just lost in translation.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/mug's+game
“””I always though an opinion didn’t have to be justified. Thats what makes it an opinion, and not fact.”””
No. That works for “taste” (e.g I like mushrooms, I prefer the color green).
An opinion has to be justified by you, using your point of view and the facts you have available. That is, there must be a reasoning you have that makes you hold it.
Else it’s not an opinion, it’s merely a random statement that has entered your mind for no reason.
The difference between an opinion and a “statement of fact” is that a statement of fact can be independently verified and corresponds to the way things objectively are.
Justification: At the end f the rental period you end up with nothing.
That ok?
I have switched to CC altough I did not want to. Adobe forces users outside US/Canada (at least in Israel) to either subscribe to the whole CC package or go to hell. I used PS for the last 4 releases and now I was informed that I may not subscribe to PS alone.
PS CC ‘s shake reduction is not as good/usefull as I expected – it looks like a exagerated sharpen effect.
look a little harder, you can just get PS
@Mediature
Actually – In Israel (as I mentioned already) there is no such option. I chatted with Adobe customer service and she clearly said – Unless I have credit card with a US address – This is not an option for Israeli (maybe other countries as well).
In the meantime I am now learning Illustrator and Indesign to justify the full subscription. 🙂 or actually 🙁 ….
The shake reduction can work quite well on low-ISO images from large-sensor cameras. Unfortunately, most images with motion blur don’t fit into that category.
I’m very interested to see the upgrades but I think the server must be flooded with others upgrading right now as all I am getting is an installer error when I run my Adobe application manager (I’ve been a Creative cloud subscriber from day one). Hope it will work itself out.
As far as the controversy around renting vs purchasing, you can’t make everyone happy. I respect Tink’s opinion (he’s not alone) but for me the subscription model has been great and allows me to stay up with the latest tools, but I am sort of A.D.D. so I need new toys all the time to keep me inetersted.:)
I had the same error with the Abobe Creative Cloud software. If you’re using windows update it form the dock icon and it will update with out error.
Hi Brandon, You should be able to quit and relaunch AAM (Adobe Application Manager) to update and see the CC applications.
Is one of the new great features “CHOICE” for the customer to pick a perpetual license if they don’t care for the forced cloud subscriptions? This seems to be the one missing most important feature.
Wait, I’m reading that Bridge CC no longer contains the Output module. Is that true?
If so, how do I quickly browse and create PDF contact sheets in CC? I use this feature quite a bit in Bridge now.
You can overcome this by using the Acrobat Pro which is part of CC and use the “Combine files”
Dragginf files onto it and edit to your likings
or use the Create PDF portfolio
Nir, Acrobat Pro is not the answer. Neither of those features approximate the functionality of the Output module. (Combine Files doesn’t even support PSDs, and PDF Portfolio appears to be a clunky mess.)
John, you said we would get more updates faster, and better tools. I’m paying monthly for this “service.” Why are you taking away a tool I use all the time, without a replacement?
What is Adobe’s solution now for users that need to create thumbnail grids of folders of images with filenames by each?
LOL. Just saw this:
http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/using/whats-new.html#community
What a joke. Adobe gutted Bridge and called it an “upgrade”. Then referred us to the old script in Photoshop to do contact sheets.
I just tested that. It took 30 seconds to do what Bridge could do in 5 secs, and then I would have to manually save out and assemble a PDF by hand.
Thanks guys. I’m already enjoying this subscription.
LOL
Jerry hi
Here is a video I found which, altough not a faster method, seems nice enough to tackle this issue – By RC from the Photoshop User guys:

The C(aptive) C(lient) shakedown continues…
Riddle me this..
How the heck do i get stuff from Flash CC into AI CC..
From Flash CC:

Export to FXG – No thats removed in CC
What? How do i get my stuff into AI in CC?

Let’s see if this ‘consideration’ gets some traction:
Adobe is considering new pricing models for Creative Cloud (via Photo Rumors)
http://photorumors.com/2013/06/16/adobe-is-considering-new-pricing-models-for-creative-cloud/
“Adobe is looking into different Creative Cloud subscription options following the massive online backlash after their announcement that future Photoshop versions will be available only through a monthly subscription. The company recently sent out a survey to a selected users about the Creative Cloud, specifically about a new pricing structure of $9.99 for Photoshop or $29.99 for the entire suite on a 3 years contract which includes a permanent copy of CS6 after 3 years and a promise to continually update CS6 to support future file and camera types. Sounds good to me!”
Makes little sense if you already own CS6.
Keep pushing guys Adobe is listening!!
I totally agree! This current plan seems to only benefit either brand new customers, or those whose current CS version is prior to CS6. The 4.1 million CS6 users get nothing for their loyalty.
After years of upgrading this is one upgrade I’ll be skipping, no CC for me, give me a lease buyout option together with pricing on a scale that equals the same cost of upgrading every 18 months and I’ll consider it.
I’m looking forward to alternative company on the scene so I can start giving them my money.
Just upgraded to Photoshop CC. What a pain! First I could not find special pricing for a current CS6 owner. I had to use the online chat, and get a special URL. I ordered the upgrade, it started to download and then failed to install the Applications Manager. Now I had to wait 45 minutes for an online support chat while receiving 20 notifications that I had less than 30 seconds to wait to be connected. I then received a different link for the Applications Manager download which worked.
What a joke
Hi Steve,
You can see all the plan options here:
https://creative.adobe.com/plans
Select the “Existing Customer” option to see the promotions.
For Individual App memberships to Photoshop, this link will take you directly there: https://creative.adobe.com/plans?plan=single
Choose [Requires CS3+ purchase] from the pop-up to see the individual app promo price.
Wow Adobe CC is a nightmare!!! Adobe, bring back the perpetual license.
Adobe SHOULD have upgraded the output modules to include HTML5/CSS slideshows.
Instead, they removed th output module completely.
PLEASE tell me they are working on an UPGRADE for this feature, and are planning planning to leave Bridge in it’s latest, decapitated state!
LR 2, LR 3, LR4, CS 2, CS 4, CS6….
Bye, bye Adobe
Initially, I was just going to post to see if John Nack here knew of anyone who has taken up the mantle of Russell Brown’s SCRIPTS, especially the “Image Processor Pro” set which I find to be among the most useful extension anywhere and is SO MUCH Better than the one that comes with Photoshop (sorry John, it is what it is). So has anyone taken that over (he put the source code on his page so someone could) or would Adobe consider simply making his incredibly useful Extensions part of the base product (for years, he would upgrade his extensions for each release… so it sort of sounds like stuff that should have been in there all along). So again, if I/we can find updated scripts for CC, I’d be grateful and thrilled all at once.
Secondly, in reading the comments, I am just struck with what a bunch of Entitlement Whiners so much of the country has turned into. Good Lord, a PRIVATE COMPANY picks a direction and you’d think they just shot the pope. Personally, I LOVE the subscription model. You know why? IT SAVES ME MONEY. LOTS OF MONEY. I hated Upgrading and paying a massive amount all at once. Or having to choose what I went without. Now, for a fixed low cost, I’m set. And I can get everything OR I could just do Photoshop for $20/month. Adobe has created a win-win. Steady stream of income and I get the latest, greatest software as soon as its ready. But if this doesn’t work for you, by all means do something else. Just stop acting like ADOBE was created to do just what you want them to do. You know, maybe this is the end result of Everyone Gets a Trophy. Oh, and for the person that stated that Adobe was Lazy – Pull you Head Out. You may not like the direction (hey, go buy something else), but Lazy doesn’t describe this company at all. Don’t think it ever has. That is one of those comments that proves one’s cluelessness. Wiser folks close the pie hole when they don’t know what they’re talking about.
Blessings Abundant,
Rich Gibson
Rich,
I would love to know how you figure this saves you money.. Most here haven’t seen that. As far as options, Adobe has taken most of their competition out, and then they change their business model. People are upset with them, clearly you are in the minority posting here, but who knows, that could just be because disgruntled customers (not freeloaders, customers) are more likely to post.
I’m pretty sure we didn’t stop by to insult you, but since you’ve done us the courtesy, I’d point out a couple things.
1. Nobody’s “Entitled”. All of us pay for the software, we just want to have something other than thin air when we’re done. That’s not exactly a new concept, and considering the power that Adobe has over our livelihoods, we’re sorta stakeholders here, private company or no.
2. If you haven’t taken a moment to think of all the other ramifications of CC, other than “Hey, look, a low monthly payment.”, then you’re probably the clueless one.
Side note: When you’ve just rolled in and insulted a bunch of people in general, and one person specifically, don’t sign off with “Blessings Abundant”. It comes off…I don’t know…somewhat less than insincere.
*sincere.
@RichGibson
Perhaps I’m a bit dense, but I’m not really seeing how your comments about “what a bunch of Entitlement Whiners so much of the country has turned into”, and “maybe this is the end result of Everyone Gets a Trophy” relate to the issue being discussed.
Or, maybe there are a few more layers to the issue than you’re able to see…
If you like, please tell us, what kind of Software you were Buying (1 or many licenses, every upgrade or just every other upgrade, Single Product or Suite or Master Collection).
I would really like to verify your claim of “saving money”.
I am not saying that you’re lying, but from all i’ve read and from all the examples i heard, your case seems to be highly unlikely.
I’ve been a Web Design Premium owner for about five years, and a Photoshop owner for longer than that. I will never rent Adobe’s CC software; I refuse to let Adobe’s greed interfere with the work I like to do.
If I were to rent, let the subscription lapse, then realize I want to make a simple edit to a photograph I worked on (assuming Adobe allows you to open your work once your subscription lapses), I would need to pay $50 to once again access Photoshop to make that edit? Or would I need to pay $600 to make that edit because I’d be bound to a one-year minimum agreement?
This is greed and extortion, and I refuse to participate. I will use CS6 until it is no longer useful, then look elsewhere.
Adobe, you’ve turned someone who loved you into someone who reviles you. Great work!
Just downloaded Photoshop and Bridge CC today. They installed nicely alongside of CS6.
So far we have some annyoances and bugs which weren’t there before in CS6.
1. Creating a curve adjustment-layer and changing curve points cannot be undone by CMD-Z. The look of the image changes back to the state before but the point on the curve remains.
2. No thumbnail-previews are saved on PSB-Files on the Mac, even when turned on in Preferences.
3. The camera-shake filter needs tons of performace. On a quad-core 2,6 Retina MBP it is usable but turning preview on and off is very laggy. Same on the Mac Pro 8-core.
4. Printing in PS CC sometimes prints two copies of the same image.
5. What happenend to the Output-Module in Bridge? A feature we use about 10 times a day. Now we don’t.
How are your experiences so far?
as to #5.) EXCELLENT QUESTION BTW, I found the following: http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/pdf-presentation-web-gallery-available.html
Fix Bridge output module. Fix it. Improve it.
Then, I will be sated.
Lightroom is a ridiculous option.
An old script for COntact Sheets only is a ridiculous option.
This should have been ready for prime-time at the release of CC. Upgrades go forward, not backwards.
Install was simple new panels means I might actually use the storage option which I didn’t last year! Some real stand out features saving me time and making money. Would have like to have seen an option to zap the cs6 apps during install especially as an existing creative cloud user.
After a year of use I dont worry about how I pay any more in Europe it was pretty much the same over the year as the boxed upgrade ( I ran boxed and cs6 cloud side by side on my two licenses last year to see it it actually works like the blurb)
I know the cost is not cheap but if I look at this commercially the new features will save me enough time this year on their own to pay for the cost. Others value may vary, I get that but for my needs across design, web and video I pay less now than years back when I needed studio MX, design collection and video collection pro, no overlap extra copies of photoshop and illustrator. Simple install, up to date.
Love the new features keep up the combination of innovation and integration.
I don’t think the switch to the cloud has anything to do with pirating. It’s about the updates.
There’s not enough changes between versions at this point to warrant updating as often as Adobe would like.
The cloud keeps the same revenue stream they had before but without the pressure to reinvent the software every few years.
