It’s distance to subject that’s changing the perspective, not focal length per se. The focal length numbers shown are for full frame 35mm. For example, on a four-thirds sensor camera, you’d get the same perspective and framing with a 100mm lens as with a 200mm lens for full frame as long as the distance to the subject is the same.
BJ, I hate it when people say things that don’t make sense. If it’s only distance to subject changing things, why do the trees appear bigger when using a longer focal length and the photographer is presumably standing farther from the trees?
Really cool. I knew the background compression side…& of course anything WIDE will distort, but it’s amazing how much change there is.
