The Photoshop team has had a great relationship with lens maker Sigma, and they’ve issued a short press release:
The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce that, through collaboration with Adobe Systems Incorporated, Sigma lenses will be compatible with the Lens Correction feature of the professional digital imaging standard, Adobe Photoshop CS5…
Photoshop CS5 has applied the aberration information of the current Sigma lens lineup. When the improved Lens Correction filter is selected, it will provide accurate correction of aberrations automatically in accordance with each lens parameter.
We look forward to sharing more details about how lens correction works in CS5, how you can create and share your own lens/camera profiles, and even how you can use some as-yet-unannounced goodness. [Via Bryan O’Neil Hughes]
Kudos to Sigma. I’ll bet Nikon won’t be signing up to provide lens correction data, much to my disappointment. Nikon likes to push its Capture NX product by keeping features like lens correction proprietary. I hope that creating custom profiles isn’t too difficult.
Nikon doesn’t have to provide the data. Judging by the screenshot at the link below, there are Nikon profiles available, whether provided by Nikon or created by Adobe.

Of course it’s possible this screenshot is simply a mockup, but I’d be surprised if that were the case.
[We’re profiling as many popular lens/body combos as we can and will have those profiles ready to go when CS5 ships. Photographers will be able to download a free tool with which to make (and, if they’d like, share) their own profiles. We’re eager to work with all vendors, but I don’t have other details on that front to share at the moment. –J.]
Up to this point I’ve been using DxO for lens distortion corrections for those images with critical lines or edges. Great program, but it makes for a really kludgy workflow with Lightroom (including Linear DNGs).
I’ll be very interested to give this a workout in Ps CS5.
I hope the lens correction feature will also make it into Lightroom 3. I really miss it there.
I do realize that you can make your own settings but I’m wondering if it comes with Pentax lens and body data as well? I couldn’t find a list on Adobe’s site… Is there a list of all the cameras/lenses that are supported out of the box?
Did any of this silly snorrers recognize that there are thousands of the SIGMA 15-30mm F3.5-4.5 DG EX in this world, even if it is now replaced by the SIGMA 12-24mm F4,5-5,6 EX DG / HSM.
OK I know, they want to sell the new ones, but you sell only if the support ist good and so it would be a good idea to put in all those lenses sold within the last 10 years.
Just remember when I can’t sell the old one for a good price, because it’s not really supported anymore, I won’t buy a new one.
And good lenses for amateurs are are a longterm deal and don’t end with the warranty period, those lenses are 10 or 15 years in use.
