I’m pleased to report that Adobe Labs is now hosting Adobe Lens Profile Creator, a free utility that enables the easy creation of lens profiles for use in Photoshop, Lightroom, and (very shortly) Camera Raw.
Lens Profile Creator characterizes three common types of lens aberrations, namely the geometric distortion, the lateral chromatic aberration and the vignette.
The general process of creating a custom lens profile for your lens involves capturing a set of checkerboard images using your specific camera and lens, converting the set of raw format images into DNG format, and importing the DNG files to generate the custom lens profile.
You can also submit the lens profiles to share with the rest of the user community.
Check out the Labs page for more info, and see the Lens Profile Creator user forum to discuss the tool & profiles.
This is such an incredible utility and from what I’ve seen looks ridiculously easy to use too.
Maybe now I’ll be more inclined to use those lenses that had been previously banished to the bottom of the camera bag 🙂
Cheers John,
All the best to you and yours,
Glyn
John,
I downloaded and tried to run this – I have a win 7 64bit OS. It was looking for a file cxcore100.dll. I am assuming there needs to be some kind of other file to replace the one you guys supply. I am looking forward to using the profiler – when it works OK for me.
Any help available?
Thanks – keep up the great wrok!
Mike – that file comes with the distribution – I’m running it on Win 7 x64 too and that file is in the folder.
Are you running the .exe in the folder that it comes in? Have you extracted everything from the zip?
Hi Mike,
The “missing” cvcore100.dll is included in the zip package. Make sure that you have unzipped everything. Other than that, if you are still running into issues, your OS might be missing the required Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libraries (SP1). You can get it from the Microsoft site,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en
Install the runtme libraries and see if it works for you.
Hey you guys are great – I did not extract the files into the directory – looks like all is well – I am looking forward to workig the profiles especially with the Nikon 80-200. Thanks again
It is a nice software, but
why if I download the Windows version of the software I will get the Apple version of the User Guides ???
The screen shots are made with the mac version of the application. The intructions applies to either version.
Hi Simon,
I understand it of course.
The question is “How it is possible that it has happened?”
If I visit a blog, it is O.K..
If I download something, as Windows user, from an official Adobe web site it is a quite different story…
Have we got a “Two Class Society” at Adobe?
Or the quality of service is so bad?
Windows users buy 50% of CS.
Why do you need two sets of screen shots when it’s the same instructions for either version?
