The Adobe Photoshop 12.0.2 update (Mac|Win) speeds up painting performance and fixes a number of problems discovered after Photoshop CS5 was released. The most significant fixes in the update include the following:
- A number of potential security vulnerabilities have been addressed
- Crashing bugs related to typography & fonts have been addressed
- Performance of various features has been improved
- Crashes related to opening 3D layers, sharpening, color management, and scanning via TWAIN devices have been fixed
- Problems with brush cursors, the histogram progress bar, the display of selection boundaries (“marching ants”), scrolling while using the shift key, and the use of action droplets have been addressed
- Intermittent file format problems have been addressed
- Metadata-related bugs related to focus distance and Orphea Studio JPEGs have been fixed
In addition you can download a TWAIN plug-in update that includes fixes for multiple document scanning, and a that fixes a crash that could occur when attempting a second scan.
Glad to see this update, it fixed the brush cursor display issue I was having which bothered me so much (I sketch in Photoshop) that I reverted to CS4 until now.
Looking forward to finally exploring CS5.
John, there`s still a colormanagement bug:
1.Convert a picture to LAB
2.Go to one of the fullsceen modes
3.You get a significant colorshift (saturation goes up), if OpenGL is enabled. I`m using a NEC PA241W, which is calibrated with Spectraview 2.
“update completed, but with errors”
I just submitted another 3D bug last night against the previous build. Perhaps this release will solve that issue, too.
On one Mac, the update installed normally. On another, the updater fails, just like the latest Illustrator updater failed. Is there a prefs file to replace?
I’ve had similar experiences with 2 Macs. One Mac updated just fine, the second Mac failed. Trying AAM online and the downloaded updater methods of updating Photoshop fail, and the Adobe Advisor sees no problem.
I had run the 12.0.1 patch earlier, but the version number now shows 12.0. Don’t relish the idea of uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling again.
update to my previous comment:
After restoring 5 file format plugins back to their original installation location, the updater worked.
This was an incremental, manual restoration before the complete uninstall/reinstall approach.
Photoshop and Illustrator updater installation failed.
“If you wish to install these updates, please fix the problems below and retry” Basically the “fix” says “Installation failed”
Ran AdobeSupportAdvisor.app and it didn’t find anything wrong.
Tried using the in app updater, also tried downloading the actual update direct from Adobe.
Guess I’ll give it a day or two and see if anyone else has issues and posts some help. Thx!
@D Tlink – I’m having the same update problem here.
Installer problem solved by uninstalling Photoshop and reinstalling, then updating as usual.
Hi Stephen! Were you updating from 12.0 or 12.0.1?
Any updates for CS4 and Nikon 7000
[No–you need to use the DNG Converter. –J.]
Hey John! I have spoke with Sumner P. at Adobe several times and sent him some of my PS Mobile work with my iphone that I put up on my website. He told me to show/contact you about it because I have several AWESOME before/after shots using just the PS app.
Get back to me with any ideas or maybe you’d like to use them for free in the PS app promo whenever the new version release is (Sumner suggested to ask). Check them out!

“Problems with brush cursors”
How about fixing problems with the brush, too? When using canvas rotation and Bristle Tip brushes with a tablet, the paint doesn’t follow the cursor direction.
Mind-boggling that this many significant errors:

could be overlooked during beta. One begins to wonder if anyone is testing much of anything. If you only realized the havoc this kind of sloppiness wreaks for designers who are trying to use a buggy product to make a living. Not to mention the irritation of having to pay so much for it …
Updating from 12.0.1 on Mac. Fails as almost all recent Adobe updates. Did anyone find a solution other than reinstalling the whole Master Collection upon every update?
Sorry to be offtopic here, but I have to let some steam go, too: We are now at version 12 with PhotoShop and 64bit. But still, if you need to apply a lensflare effect or whatever you’ll get that itsy-bitsy-tiny modal dialog window. hey, this is the end of 2010.
Hi John,
There’s a bug in Photoshop CS5 that hasn’t been fixed yet: very often, when using sliders, for example, the Saturation slider in the Hue/Saturation adjustments panel, or when adjusting the brush opacity by clicking on the word “Opacity” and dragging left or right, and many other sliders, the mouse click tends to get “stuck”. This means that when I release the mouse, the value and the slider still keeps changing as if I hadn’t released the mouse.
This is the CS5 12.0.2 version, and this is on OS X 10.6.6 on a late 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro. The bug was not present in CS4, CS3 or CS2.
I use a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet, and this bug happens about 10-20 times a day, seemingly randomly. I would know if something was wrong with the tablet, since the issue only happens in Photoshop, and very often. It has never happened anywhere else, and I use the tablet for everything. Also, it does not ever happen when using a brush (thankfully) or any other kind of tool.
The bug, as you can imagine, is extremely annoying and makes setting precise values a pain. Once you have set the value, you release the mouse only to realize that your value still changes as you move your mouse away, then you have to set the value again.
Thanks for your attention.
bagaimana caranya mendapatkan adobe potoshop cs5? dan gimana caranya mendownloadnya?
Please, if someone could enlighten me I would be so very grateful. I have CS5, and having a few problems. One major problem: half my fonts are gone! The ones that start “jl-“. Where did they go? Will this update fix it, or is there another fix for it?
Another problem: I just installed this CS5 suite on a new computer, and I am having a few compatibility issues, it tells me. I am operating windows 7.
Any help at all would be fantastic!
Hello
I’m using Photohop CS5 for Windows 64 Bits
As i had to install some extensions, I realized that I probably don’t have the latest versions of components
I have
Photoshop 12.0.4 X64
Camera raw 6.7.0.339
Extension Manager CS5
Is this correct ?
Is there a possibility to “upgrade” to the latest version of CS5 (I’ll skip CS6 and wait for CS7)
Where ccan I download the upgrades and which one should I use ?
Thanks for your help
Have a good day
