What’s the difference between Photoshop CS5 and 5.5? Nothing besides subscription support. Here’s some concise clarification from Jeff Tranberry:
Photoshop CS5 (Version 12.1 – which comes as part of Creative Suite 5.5) and Photoshop CS5 (Version 12.0.4 – a free update for the version of Photoshop which came as a part of Creative Suite 5) are exactly the same in terms of functionality except that 12.1 will support a subscription license.
Both contain the same updates to fix issues, both have the same camera support with Camera Raw 6.x, and both work with the Photoshop Touch Apps.
The Subscription service is very intriguing. Could you have both a Subscription service version and a Regular Version Installed on the same computer (mac). Would they use the same or different preferences. If you have the Regular Version installed and purchased and then get Subscription do you retain preferences, saved actions, etc.
Vise Versa
Is Adobe Acrobat Pro X available as subscription (Mac) as individual application, Is it included in Design Prem CS 5.5?
You can have both installed on the same computer. I think that was part of the reason for the version numbering difference.
Will both version be supported on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)?
[Yes. –J.]
One thing I found that is different – Pixel Bender works with 12.0.4 but not 12.1.
I believe it’s just the Pixel Bender installer that doesn’t work correctly. The team is working on packaging a Pixel Bender installer for 12.1 that will be posted in the near future.
a very clever idea from adobe..
8.00pm at an adobe meeting….
“why not confusing the customer with a plain stupid version numbering…..”
“good idea… we screw them with subscription so why not making them totally confuse”.
[OMFG, you’ve got us, right down to our crappy grammar!! Well played, pseudonymous crank. –J.]
Asked Adobe (Holland) what would be the upgrade price leap from 5.5 to 6 and would it be same as 5 to 6. This drew a blank (no crystal balls in Holland!) but, on the upside, NAPP (the wonderful, wonderful, wonderful Linda Speranza) gave me the NAPP discount code (15%) that worked with the UK Adobe website and Master Collection upgrade now ordered. I think that pretty much paid for my NAPP fees this year. Looking forward to getting my hands on Audition for the first time. Woo hoo!
Subscriptions? Not so sure, I like to hold those disks in my hand!
It’s pretty confusing to have the same product referred to with two different version numbers.
Is the next point update for Photoshop scheduled to bring them back in line (ie, both will be 12.1.1 or something like that)?
If not, how are we supposed to keep track of two different version numbers for the same product?
John, you realize you’ve now lowered your tone to the point that you’re making fun of those who lack perfect command of the english language?
I certainly don’t think @Lars’ comment was a terribly constructive one, but belittling someone for mistakes is what has every appearance of being their non-native language comes across to me, anyway, as being a little thin-skinned.
Be better than that.
[Point taken, though plenty of people named Lars speak English as a first language, and for what it’s worth this guy decided to spend his morning serially crapping on my efforts to share interesting, useful info. –J.]
