This effort by Dove to raise women’s self-esteem may be well-executed, but that shouldn’t obscure the fact that it’s boooooogus. The sketch artist knew when he was drawing from women’s self-descriptions and when he was drawing from others’ descriptions. He could easily skew his drawings so that those from the self-descriptions were unflattering and those from others’ descriptions flattering. My cynical suspicion is that those were precisely his instructions. All the exercise proves is how eager a seller of soap is to convince women they’re more beautiful than they think and to have them associate its product with feelings of warmth and self-affirmation.
Yes, exactly my thoughts, Rob.
Lol at the sketches, closer eyes, or unharmonious faces in the self description pictures… Well, it’s an ad, after all…
Why do they force people to sign on to Facebook to post a comment? Those guys are trying to help Facebook achieve world domination?
That so called “parody” is exceedingly sexist. They are making assumptions that are not generally true.
