Cinematography: “How Spielberg Constructs A Battle Scene”

Saving Private Ryan’s grueling first 28 minutes are iconic, but Evan Puschak provides a level of background (e.g. comparing the footage to battlefield films like John Ford’s The Battle of Midway) and insight I hadn’t heard before. Check it out:

  1. This is a very important area to bring people to focus. Throughout the last 50 years I have seen battle scenes in many ways, add to that the description of them from my mother and father who were there from the camps all the way to America and Ellis Island. I wish and hope the ugliness and horror will always be portrayed with the way it should so future generations never forget how ugly it really was. Spielberg has this capability , but what about the future? Already many young people- 20 something- have forgotten Vietnam and it’s lessons and reality. Thank you John for bringing this part to your blog.
