Lightroom 2.1 (Mac, Win), Camera Raw 5.1 (Mac, Win) and the DNG Converter 5.1 are now available on Adobe.com. Both releases include new camera support for the following models:
- Canon 1000D (Digital Rebel XS/EOS Kiss F)
- Canon 50D
- Fuji FinePix IS Pro
- Kodak EasyShare Kodak Z1015 IS
- Leaf AFi II 6
- Leaf AFi II 7
- Leaf Aptus II 6
- Leaf Aptus II 7
- Nikon D700
- Nikon D90
- Nikon Coolpix P6000
- Olympus SP-565 UZ
- Pentax K2000 (K-m)
- Sigma DP1
- Sony A900
The recent Camera Raw 4.6 release added the same support to Photoshop CS3. Note that if you’re not using CS3/CS4 or Lightroom 2, the free DNG Converter can make your files compatible with earlier versions and with other DNG-savvy software (not to mention smaller and more portable as well).
Lightroom 2.1 fixes are covered in this Read Me file.
Lightroom/ACR PM Tom Hogarty notes, "The beta versions of the Camera Profiles and DNG Profile Editor on Adobe Labs have also both been updated. The Profile update includes additional profiles and incremental improvements to the previous beta profiles. The DNG Profile Editor update includes minor enhancements."
Last feature request for today, promise!
Can we PLEASE have the option to open raw files in custom spaces other than the four choices given? I use my own spaces (based on L* gamma) for most Photoshop work.
Personally I think camera matching profiles and the ability to tweak your own using a ColorChecker are the best thing that’s happened to Camera Raw.
Hi John thanks for anything, just a question on CS4. Can I install PS CS4 on a Dell laptop with a 64gb SSD hard disk?
[Yes, that should be perfectly fine. We’re working to certify support now. Look for a clearer statement soon. –J.]
Reading some articles that said no, I wrote to Adode cust service, but get no answer. I’m a teacher and trainer in IT and graphics, and use just that notebook, this could be a major issue to me. I’ve already preordered CS4 master upgrade here in Italy, but if I can’t install it I’m afraid I will give up on buying. If you think this will some kind of issue that will be addressed soon I can wait. Hope you can help, thank you for your blog, daniele
Thak you very much John, save my day! It’s a pleasure to teach Adobe’s software (and being able to ask someone inside the projects, other than customer service), looking forward to try CS4. daniele
Camera Raw 4.6 for CS3; Camera Raw 5.1 for CS4 ? Is it not possible to have a better numbering system so we can know at a glance whether we are up to date whether you are in CS3 or CS4 ?
[This is the one and only time there’ll be such an overlap for the two versions. 4.6 is the last update for CS3. –J.]
Also when the new releases come for specific camera can they identify if there are other changes (non camera related) since most of us do not change our cameras as often as the Raw updates.
The (Mac) Camera Raw 5.1 updater says (“Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter”) it includes DNG Converter, but it does not. The download is a .dmg file that contains only the Camera Raw.plugin file.
I’m using Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2.0. If I upgrade to LR 2.1 (with ACR 5.1) do I then lose compatibility with Photoshop CS3 and ACR 4.6? Thanks.
[Nope, you’d be fine. 4.6 can render settings (e.g. local corrections) applied with LR2/ACR5, though it can’t edit them. –J.]
Hi ! Why the panasonic LX3 is not include on the new cameras list for ACR 5.1 ???
Thks
[We’ve been working with Panasonic on this issue, but it wasn’t possible to get in there for this rev. –J.]
Just downloaded the 2.1 update. I currently have the 2.1 RC loaded. I run the installer, it loads and completes. But when I launch it it still shows on the splash panel that it’s the 2.1 RC version?
John,
can you give us a hint if there will *ever* be native support for Hasselblad/Imacon’s camera raw file formats (.fff and .3fr) in ACR ?
[It’s really up to Hasselblad. I’m not the right guy to share more details. –J.]
the Flexcolor convert to dng workaround is O K, but it’s a workaround.
i know this only effects a (relatively) tiny amount of your customers (compared to say Canon 50D support) but i promise it’d make all us Hassy shooter very happy!
Lightroom and photoshop just keep getting better.
I just bought the nikon d700 and I am still using cs2…i tried downloading the 5.1 acr version…but it still says file cannot be read in bridge…am i doing something wrong?
[You need to download the latest DNG Converter (Mac|Win) and use it to make your NEFs into DNGs that are compatible with CS2. –J.]
So: Anyone having issues with Adobe Photo Shop, Bridge or the new lightroom when using the D800??
When using Lightroom tether system?
