The Photoshop CS4 11.0.2 update (download for Mac | Win) addresses a number of critical issues and vulnerabilities discovered after the product shipped. According to the download page,
Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 and earlier for Windows and Macintosh that could allow an attacker who successfully exploits these vulnerabilities to take control of the affected system. A malicious .ASL (swatch), .ABR (brush), or .GRD (gradient) file must be opened in Photoshop CS4 by the user for an attacker to be able to exploit these vulnerabilities. Adobe recommends Photoshop CS4 customers update to Photoshop CS4 11.0.2, which resolves these issues.
These issues do not affect Photoshop CS5.
Thanks for the update Jack! Love your blog, always finding useful infos here.
It would be cool if there was some sort of option for preconfigured guides in Photoshop. For example, if I wanted to divide the canvas into thirds or grid of a certain ratio (4ths, golden mean, etc), something that would scale regardless of canvas size. Kinda like what you’ve done with the new crop tool, but with more presets.
[Thanks for the props & feedback. You might find GridMaker interesting. –J.]
And it’s taken Adobe how long to fix this?
You’re kidding, right?
[This vulnerability that no one knew about & that no one tried to exploit, you mean? –J.]
Smithson, it is possible to edit a copy of the “new doc sizes” preset file to add new documents with guides.
Or create actions, where you change the rulers’ unit to percentage, then add the relevant guides.
Curious that Adobe issues patches for Photoshop CS4 (after CS5 has shipped) yet nothing for well documented, high profile behavioral bugs in Dreamweaver CS4, despite much begging and pleading from end users in the Adobe forums.
As PECourtejoie notes below, there are some work-arounds for this. However, I agree with you that this should be an actual tool or option within the UI.
I’d also LOVE to see rotating guides.
John – where is the exact right place to comment on Adobe pricing issues??
Not the how much it sells for but more when I want to buy 11 boxes of software to upgrade the whole company to CS5 all the discount I can get (EVEN ON A TLP) is two sets of discs amounting to 30 pounds. Which on an order of over three thousand pounds is less than one percent!!!
As a small company this make someone who is detirmined to stay legal feel like no-one there understands the economics on the world outside.
How long until, or will, this makes it into the “Application Manager”?
[Are you talking about the auto-update mechanism? If you choose Help->Updates in CS4 now, you should get the update. –J.]
I was referring to the Application Manager that popped up on me today informing me that their was a bridge update (CS4 Des. Prem. Suite) I tried a couple times refreshing it after I saw your post but it still shows only the Bridge update.
I have quite a few people here running the suite, and would like for them to be auto notified via the update popup, and not have to go into Photoshop to check.
Just tried update search from within PS and it says Adobe Reader 9, PS Camera Raw, and PS 11.0.2 update. Says nothing about Bridge.
So 2 different updaters’ showing different updates?
My prefs in the Application manager has everything checked.
I know that CS3 is a bit back in history – but does this vulnerability appear there also?
Hi … several times recently my computer has told me that I need to install the Photoshop CS4 11.0.2 update.
On EVERY occasion that I have tried to install this update it fails to install properly.
Can anybody tell why it doesn’t work … I am getting a bit fed up being told that I need to install it!!!!
Any help & advice would be much appreciated.
Mike
I, too, have been having problems installing the Photoshop 11.0.2 update on a MacBook Pro (OSX.6.4). Each time, it goes through the process and then reports a failure. Tried downloading the update directly from Adobe, but same results.
Ah! I thought I was going crazy and have wasted two hours on the same problem – not able to install the downloaded updates to CS4 on my MacBook Pro. Has anyone got any additional word since the last posting dates July 15, 2010???
Thanks!
I am having an issue with Photoshop CS4 crop tool. When I crop an image from 54 x 36, it reduces the image to 1 pixel and I cannot get the cropped image to appear. HELP!
