Video: High-speed mountain climbing

I share this not just because of the inordinate badassery of speed climber Ueli Steck, but to showcase the filmmakers’ amazing visual storytelling (full-screen HD recommended, naturally).

If you’re short on time, make sure to jump ahead around 2 minutes & at least see him running up that mountain (Kate Bush-style). [Via]

  1. Amazing guy and great video, thanks for sharing. Just a few days ago his record for the Eiger was broken by about 20 minutes.

    1. I believe someone set a different record, as they climbed in different conditions, using a different route and didn’t free climb it all either. Still impressive, but not as impressive.

  2. the question is how many times did he climb the same route, not saying is easy to climb solo but its not hard when u do it over and over.
    just my 2 cents

  3. That is beyond awesome.
Ormo – not hard!?! – with practice feats of technical endurance like that get less hard, but are certainly never easy.

  4. OMG! I agree with imaiez how could you say not hard! Even if he did climb it over and over, freechlimbing at that altitude requires not only technical skill, but allot of hard training and intense focus and endurance. Way to go Ueli!
